Summer Camp Unit Leader
Beacon House is seeking applicants for the position of Summer Camp Unit Leader for our 2008 Summer Camp. Beacon House is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that works with at-risk youth and families in Ward 5, Northeast DC, walking distance from the Rhode Island Avenue metro station. Positions will go from mid-June to the first week of August.
Job Responsibilities include
-supervising and working hands-on with a group of children ages 5-18, initiating enrichment activities with youth,
-Planning and implementing educational skill building activities, and assisting with special events.
-Planning and implementing field trips
-Supervise 1-3 jr. counselors and act as role model and mentor to children and jr. counselors
-Maintain a clean and orderly work space
-Other duties as assigned
Hours & Wage: Approximately 35 - 37.5 hours per week or less from 8:30 AM - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Wage is $12 an hour.
Qualifications: Some college coursework preferred with a preference for candidates pursuing an education degree and have one to two years experience working with children and youth. Candidate must have excellent academic, oral, and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to multi-task; be detailed oriented and willing to perform other duties as assigned. Candidate must be flexible and highly motivated, excited, and interested in working with children and youth. Candidate should have experience working with lesson plans. Prefer candidates pursuing a degree in education.
