Volunteer Coordinator
Position Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Classification: Part-time permanent, 20 hours per week
Compensation: $20,000
Hours: Day time, flexible days and time
Purpose of
Position: To recruit and maintain volunteer base.
Education/
Experience
Requirements: Bachelors degree preferred, experience recruiting and maintain volunteers also preferred.
Other skills and experience desired:
-Self - starter, motivated, independent
-Proficient in MSOffice, particularly Word and Excel
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Strong problem solving skills, flexibility and high motivation desired
-Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects
-One to two years experience working with/in at-risk communities
-Working knowledge and experience with volunteer programs
-Ability to research and implement creative approaches to recruiting and maintaining volunteers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
-Recruit volunteers for structured tutoring programs, after school study hall, athletic program, and Saturday programs.
-Coordinate volunteer schedule for after school study hall.
-Track and monitor volunteers in the structured tutoring programs.
-Nurture and retain current volunteers, including creating a volunteer event and providing volunteer incentives.
-Create and maintain database of volunteers.
-Create paper files of volunteer information.
-Create weekly volunteer email newsletter.
-Identify pools of volunteers among local universities, including Trinity University, American University, Howard University, George Washington University, George Mason University, University of the District of Columbia, Montgomery College, Prince Georges Community College, and the University of Maryland.
-Research and apply for Americorp volunteers as well as university interns.
-Maintain and grow existing relationship with City Year and Catholic University D.C. Reads program.
-Recruit volunteers from area Unitarian Universalist churches. Create opportunities for volunteers, maintain existing UU volunteers.
-Recruit volunteers from the Edgewood community and surrounding neighborhoods.
