P-T Dinner Program Coordinator

The Shrine of the Sacred Heart Dinner Program seeks a caring and motivated individual for a part-time paid position as Dinner Program Coordinator to manage evening meal distribution in the Gavan Center.

The Dinner Program is a volunteer operation that serves nutritious meals to the homeless and low-income individuals living in the Columbia Heights and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods of Washington DC. Our mission is to provide a place where all persons regardless of ethnic, social, religious or economic backgrounds can come together and share a meal in an environment that reaffirms their inherent dignity. Our vision is to create a community in which all members are fully integrated and self-sufficient.

The program operates Monday - Friday from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.

The Dinner Program Coordinator is supported by the Dinner Program Committee and will be responsible to the Board Chair. On-the-job training will be offered.

Coordinator Responsibilities

Coordinate and schedule drivers / volunteers to serve evening meals
Serve as back-up driver to deliver food from nearby Marthas Table
Track client / volunteer attendance each night
Coordinate annual Thanksgiving & Christmas dinners
Maintain accurate Dinner Program budget
Provide monthly summary report to Dinner Program Committee
In conjunction with the Dinner Program Committee, establish collaborations with community service providers

Coordinator Qualifications
Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills to handle evening operations
Basic skills in computer and Excel application for maintaining budget figures, statistics, and report preparation
Valid Drivers License
Compassionate and patient, but with potential to be firm and project a strong presence among clients
Ability to incorporate Dinner Program Committee input into program operations
Preferred candidate will be bi-lingual (English and Spanish)
