Development Director
Job Summary
The Washington Literacy Council (WLC), a 501 c (3) nonprofit that provides literacy services to adults and children in Washington, DC seeks a talented Development Director to join a small team of dedicated colleagues. Working closely with the Executive Director and members of the Board of Directors, the development director will manage all fundraising efforts, including building and cultivating the individual donor base, writing grant proposals to foundations and government agencies, organizing special events. Specific job responsibilities include:
-Work with the executive director to execute a fundraising plan that meets revenue projections.
- Build upon efforts to increase the individual donor base.
-Identify prospects/donors capable of making leadership gifts.
-Develop and implement a cultivation and donor relations plan.
- Ensure high quality stewardship of WLC donors, including appropriate acknowledgement and regular communication.
- Work with executive director and WLC board to help plan and execute special events - Love Letters for Literacy, Alphabet Society (major donors), and WLC s participation in the Congressional Baseball Game.

Requirements
Candidates should have a Bachelor s degree, 5 years of experience with a demonstrated record of success in fundraising, strong oral and written communication skills, and good organizational skills.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus benefits that include health insurance, 3 weeks paid vacation and 10 personal days per year.
