Executive Director of Covenant House

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director of Covenant House Washington. The Executive Director is the spiritual leader and chief executive officer responsible for the effective administration and operation of the organization.

Reports To: Local Board of Directors and to the President of Covenant House.

Purpose of Position: This individual is expected to play a central role in the development of long range policies and programs for the site, raising resources, in approving and monitoring operating and capital budgets, in the staffing and supervision of all activities of the organization, in setting and maintaining professional standards and in working cooperatively with other Covenant House executive staff.

Principal Responsibilities:
- Articulate the spiritual values and policies needed to execute the mission of Covenant House. - Act as chief spokesperson for the local site, representing the agency to the media, prospective donors, government agencies, staff, etc. Articulate the goals and aspirations of Covenant House to all who need its services and to those who support it. - Direct, improve, and implement program content and program quality control processes within and consistent with the Covenant House mission and philosophy and policies established by the Board. - Act as an advocate on behalf of homeless and runaway kids. - Report to the local Board of Directors and the President of Covenant House. Submit the nominees for directors and officers of the local site to the President of Covenant House for appointment by the Covenant House Board of Directors. - Advise the Board of Directors and the President of Covenant House on matters affecting the Corporation. - Develop plans for the growth of the local Covenant House, articulating a vision of service to respond to local needs. Periodically presents such plans to the Board of Director for review and approval. - Insure that all orders and resolutions of the Board of Directors and the directives of the President are carried out. - Establishes and maintains an effective system of communication with other Covenant House Executive Directors, sharing information and expertise as appropriate. - Ensure the development of an effective system of internal accounting control including organizational arrangements with clearly defined lines of responsibility and delegation of authority. The system must provide reasonable assurance that transactions are executed in accordance with management authorization and are properly recorded. It must adequately safeguard, verify and maintain accountability of assets. - Develop and recommend for Board approval operating and capital budgets. - Recommend for Board approval acquisition and disposition of real estate, significant lease and construction commitments and major capital expenditures. - Execute and deliver in the name of the corporation all deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, or other instruments authorized by the board.

Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Human Services and 10 years of progressive senior managerial and executive responsibility in a non-profit agency of comparable size. Appropriate Local Licensure strongly desired. - Highest level of oral, written, and interpersonal skills with a broad range of board members, donors, professionals, colleagues, and subordinates. - High degree of general administrative and management knowledge. Specialized knowledge in fundraising, programming, public speaking, finance, budgeting, and knowledge of professional child care. - Ability to make speeches and interact with the media. - Residential experience and ease in communication with teenagers is highly desirable.
