Academic Director
Title: Academic Director
Reports To: Deputy Director, Executive Director
Position Summary: Plan, direct, and facilitate reading and math tutoring initiatives and after school homework programming for children in grades K-8.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee all academic programs (Reading Heroes, Math Heroes, Homework Club)
• Oversee acquisition and maintenance of academic resources and supplies
• Supervise Coordinators for all academic programs (Reading Heroes, Math Heroes, Homework Club)
• Conduct weekly academic meetings with program coordinators to evaluate program progress
• Observe, evaluate, and coach Homework Club and Reading & Math coordinators
• Continue development of Homework Club and Reading/Math program curriculum
• Conduct and evaluate student assessments (including surveys, report cards); analyze assessments to use student performance data to drive curricular decision-making.
• Work with academic advisory board to set goals, monitor progress and effectiveness of programs, and make informed decisions about programs and student involvement.
• Partner with local schools by forging new relationships with administration and related staff
• Coordinate report card collection from students/parents and work to form partnership with school teachers and administration
• Conduct occasional parent/family visits to student homes to create connection between home and after school program
Qualifications:
• College graduate with at least two years of experience working with children in an academic (and preferably urban) setting
• Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
• Must have a positive attitude, be flexible and creative, handle stress well, be willing to learn from the organization, and be able to handle multiple tasks
• Must have strong relational skills (cross-culturally and with various age groups)
• strong commitment to team and willingness to create proposals and work creatively to collaborate with other professionals to solve problems and serve students effectively
