D.C. LEARNS: Washington D.C.'s Literacy Education, Advocacy, and Resource Network

April 13, 2009

D.C. LEARNs Quarterly Meeting, April 16th, 1:30-4:30pm

Prepare to roll up your sleeves for this one: this is going to be a true working meeting. We hope to leave this one with a new strategy for working with D.C. LEARNs members on our referral and database system, and with feedback on our plan and our timeline for year 2 of our rapidly expanding AmeriCorps program. If you are thinking about applying for an AmeriCorps member (or two), this is a key meeting for program directors. Students and other staff are, of course, welcome as always.

Location: Catholic Charities, 924 G Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001, in the boardroom

Tentative Agenda:

1. Working session to explore ways to work together to provide student and volunteer referrals, and maintain information in our adult, family, and children's literacy program database.

2. Year 2 Literacy*AmeriCorps information. We will be presenting some information on what we have learned during Year 1 of this project and will be looking for your feedback on some proposed changes to the program as get ready to release the Year 2 applications.

3. Policy/Budget updates. Followup on OSSE payment issues.

4. Adult Education Professional Development Center - Announcing planning process for next year (time permitting).
