How do I become a member of D.C. LEARNs?

We invite you or your organization to become a member of D.C. LEARNs and help us improve literacy policy and services in the District of Columbia. Return our membership form (see link below) along with a check to D.C. LEARNs as instructed on the form.

D.C. LEARNs offers the four following categories of membership:

Member Benefits

If you are a child, family, or adult literacy organization, teacher, or volunteer in Washington, D.C. — or if you are simply interested in being a part of our literacy community — you'll benefit from a membership in D.C. LEARNs.

Benefits Include:

  • A free subscription to our quarterly publication, The Knowledge Builder, with stories on innovative practices, resources, and hot topics in the Washington D.C. literacy community.
  • An opportunity to showcase your program to the entire literacy community by writing about it in our newsletter, or by presenting at one of our quarterly meetings. If you are interested in presenitng at a meeting or writign about your program for our newsletter, please contact memberservices@dclearns.org.
  • Enhanced opportunities for professional development and training for all members, including all program staff of organizational members. This includes participation in special interest groups (recent topics have included ESOL, children's literacy, and health and literacy).
  • Opportunities to stay better informed about literacy policy both locally and nationally.
  • The opportunity to nominate students, volunteers, and staff for special recognition at our annual meeting and awards ceremony.
  • Scholarships for staff to support their attendance at local and national conferences. Download a scholarship application.
  • Free children's books thbrough our book drives and through special donation arrangments with partners such as Scholastic.
  • Subscription to our member E-mail list.

Most important, as a member of D.C. LEARNs, you will have the opportunity to contribute your experiences and expertise to the entire D.C. Literacy community and help shape the city's literacy efforts.
