Scholastic Book Distribution
On October 19th, 2006, D.C. LEARNs distributed over 3,000 brand new books to 17 child and family literacy providers serving the greater metropolitan Washington area. Early childhood education organizations received beautiful picture books, both nonfiction and fiction, while programs serving middle school students in after school programs took home an excellent variety of chapter books, many of which will be used in creating book clubs, a long time goal of organizations serving older students.
D.C. LEARNs would like to thank Scholastic for their donation, and LiteracyUSA for helping to facilitate the donation, as well as deliver the books.
A very special thank you to member organizations CentroNia and Friendship House Association for letting us use their space as sites for distributing the books to our member organizations!
