The next D.C. LEARNs' membership meeting will take place on: Friday, September 18th, from 9:30 am to noon. The meeting will take place at:
The Foundation Center-Washington, DC, 1627 K Street, NW, Third Floor.
Detailed directions here:
Agenda will include:
• A review of Foundation Center resources.
• A discussion and an opportunity to provide feedback on the upcoming DCPL/D.C. LEARNs volunteer recruitment/public awarenesss event at the D.C. Public Library on September 29th.
• Opportunity for feedback on new Web site. Based on our feedback we've received at previous meetings, we're building in more features for members to post/update and use the site, and we want to show you these new tools. We are planning to have the new site up just prior to Sept. 29th.
• Report from D.C. LEARNs staff on Literacy*AmeriCorps successes in 2008-09, introduction of new staff, and feedback from members on how we can improve the application and recruitment processes.
• Presentation of our recommendations on policy priorities for remainder of the year (including children and youth literacy issues) and discussion of the involvement of coalition members in the policy work (we didn't have enough of a chance to get into this in detail at the last meeting). We are especially interested in:
(a) Assessing what has worked/not worked in our collective and individual efforts in trying to resolve the OSSE payment delay issues; and
(b) How D.C. LEARNs could/should represent the interests of our children/youth when dealing with city policymakers.
Please let us know if you plan to attend -- remember that D.C. LEARNs membership meetings are open to any staff member of a D.C. LEARNs member program. Invite everyone!
